About Nepal Visuals

Crafting the peaks,
respecting the roots.

Our Story

A studio for slower mountain travel.

Nepal Visuals began in 2010 as a quiet experiment: take one traveller into the Khumbu, give them a camera, slow the itinerary down by two days, and see what happens. The answer turned out to be very simple — the mountain becomes legible. The acclimatisation works. The photographs become things you keep.

A decade later we're still a small team, on purpose. Most of our guides have been with us since their first season. Our office sits above a chiya stand in Lazimpat, ten minutes from the Tourism Board. We run fewer than forty departures a year, capped at eight guests, because that's the number where the trail still feels like yours.

We work in service of three things, in this order: the safety of the people in our care, the integrity of the places we move through, and photographs worth remembering. Everything else is logistics.

What We Stand For

Six commitments we won't compromise on.

Local Guardians

Our lead guides were born at altitude. They read weather windows, navigate moraine, and translate the culture of the trail with equal fluency.

Safety, Quietly Engineered

Bottled oxygen above 5,000 m, high-altitude medical kits on every trip, satellite comms, and small group ratios — the precautions you never have to think about.

Visual Storytelling

A working photographer travels with most expeditions, so your summit lives on in images you'd actually hang on a wall.

Light Footprint

We carry out what we carry in, support locally-owned teahouses, and offset the carbon of every international flight to Kathmandu.

Fair-Wage Fieldwork

Porters and guides are paid above TAAN minimums, insured, and equipped — every season, regardless of group size.

Small by Design

Maximum eight guests per departure. Quiet camps, real conversation, and decisions made for people — not for spreadsheets.

Our Journey

Fifteen years on the trail.

  1. 2010

    A first lens on Lobuche

Founder Suman Lama begins guiding small photographic expeditions into the Khumbu — one client, one camera, one route at a time.

  2. 2014

    Nepal Visuals is registered

Licensed by the Nepal Tourism Board and the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN), we move from passion project to full operator.

  3. 2018

    The Manaslu chapter

We open restricted-area permits in Manaslu and Tsum Valley, partnering with village councils to keep tourism slow and circular.

  4. 2022

    Climbing arm launched

Island Peak, Mera and Lobuche East added under IFMGA-certified leadership — small ropes, generous acclimatisation.

  5. Today

    Premium, photography-led trekking

A boutique team of guides, photographers and operations leads, running fewer than 40 hand-built departures a year.

"The Himalaya doesn't owe us a summit. Our job is to arrive ready, move quietly, and listen — to the weather, to the body, to the people who've shared this trail for a thousand years."
Suman Lama — Founder & Lead Guide
